建築空間論研究室について

建築空間論研究室は2002年の設立以来、空間論の探求を軸に、建築をめぐる理論と実践を横断する研究に取り組んでいます。

私たちが対象とするのは、建築という単体だけではありません。素材や構法といった建築を成立させる物質的な次元から、人間が空間を知覚し意味づける仕組み、建築を成立させる類型や構成原理、さらには都市や集落を形成する空間構造まで、異なるスケールを連続的に捉えることを重視しています。

現在は、「物質・構法・環境」「空間・知覚・表現」「建築・類型・設計論」「都市・集落・空間構造」という4つの視点から研究を展開しています。それぞれの領域を独立したものとして扱うのではなく、その相互関係を読み解きながら、空間を構想するための新たな理論と方法を探求しています。

また、こうしたリサーチを実践的な設計プロジェクトやフィールドワークと結びつけ、研究と設計、理論と実践を往還することを研究室の重要な方法としています。過去や社会に学びながら未知の空間を構想すること――そのための思考と実践の場であることを目指しています。

About the Laboratory

Founded in 2002, the Architectural Space Theory Laboratory explores the theory and practice of architecture through the study of space.

Our research extends beyond architecture as an individual object. We approach space across multiple and interconnected scales: from the material conditions that shape architecture—materials, construction, and environment—to the ways in which space is perceived and represented; from architectural typologies and principles of design to the spatial structures that shape cities and settlements.

Our research is organized around four perspectives: Material / Construction / Environment; Space / Perception / Representation; Architecture / Typology / Design Theory; and Urban / Settlement / Spatial Structure. Rather than treating these as separate fields, we investigate the relationships between them in search of new theories and methods for conceiving architectural space.

Research is closely linked to design projects and fieldwork. By moving continuously between research and design, theory and practice, we seek to learn from history and society while imagining spatial possibilities yet to come. The laboratory is conceived as a place where thinking and making come together in the ongoing exploration of new forms of architectural space.
